DIY Unicorn Cake and Cupcake Topper (+Free Cut File)

Here are step-by-step directions to make both the free unicorn cake topper AND the free unicorn cupcake topper from the free unicorn birthday banner silhouette cameo cut file DIY project I featured to celebrate my daughter Livvy’s second birthday. These were so simple and so gorgeous, cut on glitter cardstock that I picked up on sale at Michaels.

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Cut the unicorn cupcake toppers silhouette cut file onto glitter cardstock. Due to the thickness of the cardstock I had, I had to increase the cut settings to chipboard settings. So, keep this in mind if you choose Recollections cardstock.
  2. Tape each unicorn to a toothpick. Also, make sure the tape is cut small enough that it doesn’t stick out. While this isn’t a big deal, I think it cheapens the look.
  3. Insert the toothpick into the decorated cupcake. Specifically, I chose to do roughly 3 out of every 9 cupcakes so it wasn’t overkill.

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Cut the unicorn cake topper cut file onto glitter cardstock. You can choose the whole unicorn (as pictured) or just the head. Also, make sure to cut two, one facing each way if you want the topper to be double-sided!
  2. Glue the back of one unicorn and line them up before gluing together over the edge of a bamboo skewer. First, I slid the skewer in after they were lined up and held them together for a minute or two to make sure they stuck to the skewer. Then, I also broke the skewer in half so it wasn’t too long. However, if you have a large or double-layered cake you don’t have to worry about this.
